Profile of the study program
The Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering offers in-depth and specialized training for prospective engineers who want to prepare themselves for demanding technical challenges.
The Production Engineering specialization provides advanced knowledge in the areas of production technologies, robotics, quality management and production planning. Students deepen their understanding of complex manufacturing processes and learn to develop innovative solutions for efficient and cost-effective production systems.
Product development and simulation focuses on advanced design methods, computer-aided modeling and simulation techniques. Students expand their skills in the use of CAD software, finite element analysis, flow simulation and other simulation tools to virtually design, optimize and validate products and components.
In the field of mechanical, energy and environmental engineering, the focus is on topics such as energy conversion, thermodynamics, environmental technologies and sustainable development. Students deal with the design and optimization of machines and systems in order to ensure efficient energy use, environmentally friendly processes and sustainable use of resources.
The Master's program offers students the opportunity to deepen their skills through project work. They work closely with lecturers and industry partners and can further develop their expertise in specialized areas of mechanical engineering.
Graduates of the study program are ideally equipped for demanding careers in industry, research or counseling. They can work as project managers, design engineers, development engineers, production managers or sustainability experts in various sectors such as the automotive industry, mechanical and plant engineering, medical technology, the energy industry or environmental technology and develop innovative solutions for complex technical challenges.
Course content
In addition to expanding your core engineering skills with the modules in Advanced Mathematics, Applied Computer Science and Systems Theory, you can design your studies according to your personal inclinations and interests in the first two semesters with compulsory and elective modules. You can choose from the following specializations

- Mechanical, Energy and Environmental Engineering
are available to you.
Interdisciplinary thinking and teamwork are encouraged in working groups and projects. As part of the Master's project in the first two semesters, you will also acquire practical management skills in the Management Skills module.
Degree
You will write your Master's thesis in the third semester in cooperation with industry or within the university in our laboratory facilities. After successfully completing your studies, you will graduate with a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.).

Mechanical engineering offers specializations in the following areas:
Production engineering
Production engineering deals with the planning, organization and optimization of production processes in order to manufacture products efficiently and cost-effectively. As part of the compulsory modules, you will attend courses on lean production, machining technology and primary and forming technology.
Product development and simulation
Product development is a crucial process that involves the creation of new products or the further development of existing products. Computer-aided design (CAD) and engineering (CAE) play a central role here. As part of the compulsory modules, you will attend courses on product development and CAE, flow simulation (CFD) and structural mechanics (FEM).
Mechanical, energy and environmental engineering
Mechanical, energy and environmental engineering is an interdisciplinary field that deals with the development and application of technologies that make machines more efficient, environmentally friendly and sustainable. Compulsory modules include energy and environmental engineering, sustainability and resources, and process engineering.

Mechanical and plant engineering: As a mechanical engineer, you could work in companies that manufacture machines and plants. Here you could work in the design, production and commissioning of machines and systems, contributing your expertise in various technologies and systems.

Cooperative doctorate

The Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering can be exciting for you if you enjoy scientific work and technical innovations and are prepared to develop solutions for engineering problems. Your previous knowledge of mathematics, technical mechanics and physics as well as engineering fundamentals will help you to successfully complete the Master's study program.
Knowledge of English, communication and social skills as well as the basics of presentation techniques are important prerequisites.

The prerequisite for admission to the program is the completion of a study program
- mechanical engineering or
- vehicle and traffic engineering or
- automotive engineering or
- automotive electronics or
- a study program comparable to these study programs
Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering or Diplom-Ingenieur* at a university or the completion of a corresponding accredited Bachelor's degree program at a vocational academy.
Furthermore, the study programs must contain at least 210 credit points according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
