About the project

Educational support - not without us! A project to promote parental self-organization in inclusive child and youth welfare (ElSe) The practical research project "Educational support - not without us!" (ElSe) deals with the promotion of parent self-organization in the context of inclusive child and youth welfare. The starting point of the project is Section 4a SGB VIII, which strengthens the promotion of self-representation structures of young people and parents as a central component of participatory child and youth welfare. The aim of the project is to systematically involve parents as experts in their own cause in the further development of educational support, to promote their networking and to strengthen self-organization structures in the long term. To this end, parent self-organizations are being set up at four selected model locations and professionally supported in their development. The project combines practical development work with scientific reflection and analysis. ElSe is designed as a qualitative practical research project. The empirical basis is formed by guided group discussions with parents at the model locations, which are conducted and scientifically evaluated during the course of the project. The aim is to make the experiences and perspectives of parents on the project process visible and to analyse the conditions for successful parental self-organization in the field of educational support. Based on the empirical results, impulses will be developed for the professional public, which should contribute to strengthening participatory and inclusive structures in child and youth welfare. The project is being carried out as a cooperation project with the International Association for Educational Assistance (IGFH) at the Fachhochschule Dortmund in the Faculty of Applied Social Studies. It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
