About the person

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hendrik Wöhrle studied bioinformatics as well as electrical engineering and information technology at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Hagen. After working in industry as a software developer for signal processing and numerical algorithms in the field of biosignal analysis, he moved to the Robotics Innovation Center of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, where he worked on signal processing and machine learning for brain-computer interfaces, data flow architectures for reconfigurable hardware and rehabilitation robotics. In 2017, he received his doctorate in computer science on application-specific computer architectures for artificial intelligence at the University of Bremen. Since 2019, he has been Professor of Intelligent Autonomous Sensor and Actuator Systems at Fachhochschule Dortmund. His current research areas are the development of efficient and energy-saving computer architectures for machine learning in miniaturized and embedded systems, robotics and biomedical engineering. Machine learning methods are used for the design and optimization of these systems. His research also deals with the reverse perspective, i.e. the development and application of machine learning methods for the optimization of signal processing systems, for applications in the field of the Internet of Things and for the design of specialized or domain- and application-specific hardware architectures for machine learning and robotics.
