Dean Prof. Dr. Katja Nowacki(Opens in a new tab) welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of the practicum—and thus of practicum supervision—for the studies of aspiring social workers. Students from a theater education seminar led by Prof. Dr. Norma Köhler,(Opens in a new tab) Professor of Theater Education, in the Bachelor’s program in Social Work delighted the participants with micro-performances.
Following a lecture by Prof. Dr. Emra Ilgün-Birhimeoğlu(Opens in a new tab) , Professor of Migration, Integration, and Participation—which addressed questions of belonging, the defining power of language, and the role this plays in field supervision—the participants split up to attend various sessions and workshops led by lecturers and staff from the faculty and partner field sites.
Alumni as Clinical Instructors
The vast majority of the field instructors are themselves graduates of Fachhochschule Dortmund. “Despite some minor technical issues, it was a successful meeting with great discussions and many shared ideas for the future,” sums up Annika Zemke, field coordinator for the Social Work study program.
To provide a tangible symbol that emphasizes the importance of the practicum phase for the degree program, all participants received a puzzle-shaped keychain—representing the practicum as a crucial piece of the puzzle in the study of social work!
