Workshop: How do I find the study program that suits me?
What can I do after leaving school?
We offer an orientation workshop in small groups for pupils who do not yet know what they should do after leaving school.
In the workshop, the students take an in-depth look at themselves and receive tips on how to make a good choice of studies.
The workshop can be held both digitally and in person at Fachhochschule Dortmund or at your school.
Workshop: Do you need math for this?
Student workshop on study requirements and mathematical skills
There is often math in it without it obviously being written on it! This often overlooked detail is particularly important for later academic success when considering and deciding on a course of study. But how can you find a study program that won't surprise you later on because the requirements in certain areas, e.g. mathematics, don't match your personal requirements?
The workshop
- provides information on how to search for study requirements and the importance of mathematics within certain study programs,
- provides an overview of training opportunities for refreshing math skills before starting your studies,
- includes a small math self-test, which allows students to take a targeted look at the requirements of the degree course and their own skills,
- introduces the counseling and support services offered by Fachhochschule Dortmund.
Where, how and when?
The workshop is offered by arrangement. For larger groups (whole school classes or levels) a separate date is possible by prior arrangement.

Study preparation for pupils
The transition from school to university is a major challenge for many students in STEM subjects. Due to different ways of thinking and working and different requirements that are needed to develop mathematical concepts, definitions, theorems or proofs, a mathematical gap can arise.
To counteract this gap, Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts developed the "Mathematics Bridge Course" in cooperation with the Regional Education Office of the City of Dortmund(Opens in a new tab) :
Pupils from selected Dortmund schools are prepared for a STEM degree course by being taught and deepening the necessary mathematics knowledge, even beyond the school curriculum. Trained tutors from Fachhochschule Dortmund are assigned to the schools for this purpose.
If there is a group of interested pupils, a weekly appointment is arranged, which takes place regularly throughout the school year. Specific topics covered include complex numbers and integral calculus. Here, the basics are reinforced, expanded and insights into university mathematics are provided.
Secondary school pupils from selected schools in Dortmund are prepared for a WiMINT course of study by learning and consolidating the necessary mathematics knowledge, even beyond the school curriculum, in weekly courses. Trained tutors from Fachhochschule Dortmund are deployed in the schools for this purpose.
