The Central Student Advisory Services (ZSB) offers appointment times for detailed barrier-free study counseling in the Faculties of Architecture, Computer Science and Business Studies. Please get in touch with one of the following contact persons to arrange an appointment.

A workroom and resource pool are available on the first floor of Emil-Figge-Straße 38b. The room is equipped with several computer workstations. The computers are equipped with screen readers for speech output and for controlling Braille displays. The computers can be used via voice control and dictation software. In addition to the computer workstations, there are screen readers for enlarging study materials.

Devices can also be borrowed here for students to use for short periods during lectures or examinations. There is, for example, a laptop with a screen reader, a laptop with special software for students with dyslexia and a mobile screen reader with close and distance functions.

Assistance for guests with assistance needs

Tray trolleys and cutlery trays at seat height are available in the university canteens. A height-adjustable table is also available in the Kostbar on the Emil-Figge-Str. campus.

If required, the Studierendenwerk offers personal assistance for visits to the main canteen. To make use of this service, you only need to come to the InfoPoint in the foyer of the canteen building (Opens in a new tab) . A tactile guidance system will lead you directly there through the canteen foyer. The staff at the InfoPoint will report your visit to the kitchen management and accompany you to the elevator. In the main canteen, you will then be welcomed by a service employee who will, for example, read out the menu to you, guide you to the desired counter or help you carry your tray and find a seat. This service also applies to a visit to the Gallery (Opens in a new tab) on the North Campus.

Financial hardship? Bad enough, but true: many students get into financial difficulties despite BAföG, scholarships or parental support - and often with good reason.

Here you will find a sample document for submitting a hardship application. You can use the sample document to check whether you belong to the group of people who are entitled to the hardship regulation when applying for a study place. You will also find out which supporting documents are required for this. The original document will be made available as part of the online application.

If you are studying with a chronic illness or disability, you are studying under difficult conditions. To ensure that you are not disadvantaged in your studies, you have the right to apply for compensation for disadvantages.
We will be happy to advise you on the possibilities of compensation for disadvantages available to you individually.

As you will need a medical certificate/psychotherapeutic statement to apply, you will also find a cover letter for the person issuing your certificate here.

Under certain conditions and by submitting the relevant documents, it is possible to receive a refund of the semester ticket fee, which is part of the total semester fees.

Students with a severely disabled person's ID card and the "Wertmarke" (supplementary sheet to the severely disabled person's ID card) can have the semester ticket fee refunded.

Students who are unable to travel (unable to use public transport due to illness) for at least 3 months can also apply for a refund on presentation of a corresponding medical certificate.

Relaxation room
At the Emil-Figge-Straße location in building 44 there is a quiet room for retreat. This can only be used by students with disabilities/chronic/mental illnesses.

The message must be sent via the studfh address. Please include your name and the faculty in which you are studying in the message. You will then receive further information regarding booking and access to the relaxation room.

In the conversion service, study materials are converted into a new form according to the individual needs of the students, for example as an adaptation of non-digital texts in large print or Braille.

In this context, instructions, guidelines and training courses for university staff are also created in order to produce materials that are as accessible as possible right from the start. This is not only done with people with disabilities in mind, but also with regard to the variety of device types and technologies that can present the information.

The accessible production of information applies to texts as well as videos, podcasts and other media formats used in e-learning.
