Studying at Fachhochschule Dortmund with a child - is that possible?

Since the end of 2012, Fachhochschule Dortmund has had a cooperation agreement with the AWO Dortmund sub-district. This gives both students and employees the opportunity to obtain a childcare place for their child. The AWO Dortmund sub-district is currently responsible for 16 childcare facilities spread across the city of Dortmund. Please contact the family service for further information.

In the lovingly furnished rooms of the "FrecHdachse" at Rheinlanddamm 201a, a total of 9 children of UAS members are currently looked after by two qualified childminders. The children are aged between two months and three years.

The premises consist of a kitchen where the children have breakfast together every morning, a quiet room and a bedroom as well as a playroom. The outdoor play area is also used.

Your childminder is ill and you have an important appointment at the university? You have the option of using MoKi for such and similar bottlenecks. Your child will be looked after within an agreed distance from you on the university premises while you have an important appointment at the university, attend a course or office hours, etc. Mobile childcare does not replace regular childcare, but it is your short-term care close to the university for emergencies and off-peak times.

In addition to MoKi, MoKi online has established itself as an online childcare service. For example, children can use a video conferencing system to chat with a MoKi supervisor and other children and listen to stories being read aloud.

Is your child's head spinning during the vacations? During the first weeks of the summer school vacations and during the Easter and fall vacations (NRW), children between the ages of 6 and 13 have the opportunity to register for the Fachhochschule Dortmund vacation program. Together with children of members of the Fachhochschule Dortmund, they experience a varied program around the campus of the Fachhochschule Dortmund and the TU.

The Kita im Grünen - Pädagogisches Zentrum am Campus is aptly named, as it is located in the middle of nature and in the immediate vicinity of Campus Süd (Am Gardenkamp 47-49, 44227 Dortmund). There are three Studierendenwerk student residences in the immediate vicinity. The nearest bus stop is within walking distance. A total of 120 children in eight groups are looked after in the daycare center. FH students and their children are very welcome.

At all Fachhochschule Dortmund locations you will find TÜV-approved changing tables that can be opened up. They are equipped with a mat and a diaper pail. You will find the changing tables in these buildings, recognizable by a baby pictogram:

To support parents of slightly older children, play boxes can be borrowed from all faculties. They contain all kinds of utensils that can be used to keep children occupied in a playful way - for example if the daycare center is on strike or the childminder is unavailable.

Fachhochschule Dortmund provides its students and employees with children of different ages at all three locations with child-friendly "parent-child rooms", which offer the opportunity to organize themselves while looking after the children, to exchange ideas or simply to take a break. The following rooms can be used:

• North Campus, Emil-Figge-Str. 42, Room B.E.20 (in the Faculty of Computer Science)
• Max-Ophüls-Platz 2, Room E 30/31 (in the Faculty of Design)
• Sonnenstr. 96, room A 120 (basement next to the student workstations)

Children of Fachhochschule Dortmund students can enjoy a free lunch every day in the Studierendenwerk Dortmund canteens. The "Kinderteller" is valid for children up to the age of 10 and is valid in all canteens. To do this, you must register your child/children with your ODS and contact the Family Service to apply for the child card for parents studying at Fachhochschule Dortmund. At Fachhochschule Dortmund, you can talk to our familyscouts if you have any questions about studying with a child or children. The familyscouts are parents themselves and study at Fachhochschule Dortmund.

The familyscouts network students with care responsibilities, collect and share information on study organization and financing. They form a political voice together with the AStA Department for Diversity and Family and the student representative of the Equal Opportunities Officer. The familyscouts have a direct line to Family Services, the Equal Opportunities Office and the student committee representatives.

The Family Service provides support and information on all issues relating to the compatibility of family and studies. Not only does good and reliable childcare play a role here, but also financial and study/work organization aspects.

There are student parents in every faculty with whom you can exchange ideas and certainly pick up a tip or two about studying with a child.
