Achim Mohné is one of the leading figures in German media art. This solo exhibition focuses for the first time on the camera-less photographic work of this trained photographer and artist. It spans from early works from the 1990s to aesthetic image compositions derived from performances involving copiers and scanners. Many of the works—photocopies and photograms—are on view for the first time. They resemble photographic images and explore how electronic and digital information is transformed into two-dimensional visual representations. The term “technoimagination” was coined by media philosopher Vilém Flusser (1920–1991), the intellectual inspiration behind several of the artist’s series. A second focal point is the reinterpretation of the Grimm fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood” (“The Wolf of the King’s Forest and the Girl”), which was generated using artificial intelligence and collaged with film and video images. The result is an analog and a virtual installation, designed for both the interior and exterior spaces of the museum.
