The presentation "More than risk management: resilience as the key to sustainable supply chains" shows that traditional risk management approaches alone are no longer sufficient to counter the increasing uncertainties of global supply chains. In the face of growing disruptions caused by geopolitical conflicts, pandemics, natural disasters and Business Studies crises, the pressure on supply chains is constantly increasing, resulting in supply bottlenecks, material shortages and cost increases, among other things. Supply chain resilience is seen as a necessary extension in order to be prepared for unforeseeable events, to be able to react quickly and to ensure long-term competitiveness.

Resilient supply chains are characterized in particular by robustness (e.g. redundancies, dual sourcing) and agility (e.g. contingency plans, flexible capacities). Transparency, cooperation, adaptability and suitable governance and technology approaches also play a key role.

A comparison of research and practice shows extensive agreement with regard to key resilience measures such as transparency, redundancy and supplier cooperation. At the same time, there are gaps in implementation, for example in the use of simulations, clear governance structures or specific resilience indicators. Companies often focus more on short-term operational measures, while research places greater emphasis on structural and long-term approaches.
