About the project
Establishment of the German Rescue Robotics Center (DRZ)
In future, rescue robots and associated technologies (e.g. radio communication/data processing) will be used as an integrated operational tool to collect relevant information from a safe distance. This information will be compiled in informative situation reports, which will serve as the basis for targeted measures by the emergency services. Robotic support can not only minimize risks for emergency services in hostile environments, but also initiate measures more quickly without endangering emergency services.
The German Rescue Robotics Center (DRZ) e.V. was founded as part of the BMBF-funded A-DRZ project (01.10.2018 to 30.09.2022). Acting as a catalyst, the DRZ strives to bring together users, researchers and innovative companies, bundle expertise in a network and thus transfer and integrate the promotion of the development of innovative robotics and related technology into practice as required.
The aim of the project is the sustainable establishment of the German Rescue Robotics Center. The project networks key players from science, Business Studies and users and bundles existing expertise in rescue robotics and the use of robots in the field of civil security. The DRZ e.V. acts as a point of contact and knowledge carrier for inquiries from third parties in connection with rescue robotics and provides its infrastructure for testing and operational validation of rescue robotics systems and technologies in the Living Lab.
With the intention of promoting innovative system solutions for emergency personnel to relieve them of risky and hazardous work and to minimize hazards for them, the project is developing and setting up externally available platforms to evaluate the performance of competing system solutions.
As in the previous A-DRZ project, Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts is involved as a joint partner with Faculty 5 and IDiAL. The research work in the follow-up project E-DRZ focuses on the further development of the mobile ground robot platforms from A-DRZ, the modularization concept and a new development in the area of multi-robot cooperation. The cooperation consists of ground robots and drones.
