About the project
As part of the seminar "Building materials technology specialization: CREATE YOUR OWN [GAME] FIGURES", students in teams of up to two people had the task in the summer semester of 2023 of abstracting thematically related architectural icons in such a way that a set of chess game pieces could be created from them using 3D printing.
The students not only relied on generatively manufactured elements using FDM 3D printers, but also integrated tried-and-tested building materials such as wood, concrete, plastic and metal into their creative designs. The versatility of these materials made it possible to express the characteristics of various architectural icons in the game pieces.
The seminar goal was achieved and each team presented a set of six unique game pieces. This synthesis of architecture, 3D printing and traditional building materials reflected not only the creativity of the students, but also their ability to find innovative solutions in design.
The resulting works were then exhibited in the faculty for several weeks and evaluated by all interested parties.
Finally, some of the works and the data required for printing were published on an online portal and are therefore available to the entire community.
