The picture has a very narrow horizontal page format. In thirty-six square pictures, it shows a collection of variously designed, colorful, plastically and geometrically highly altered construction helmets, staffed on a transparent plastic head facing to the right. Some have large incisions, some are covered with nets or materials such as wood, cardboard, concrete or metal and others have small rods in them that stretch nets and cords.

About the project

The task in the impromptu "ARCHITECTS HELMET I Save lives - build houses" was to customize a construction helmet for a well-known architect and document it in the form of a poster.

In this impromptu project, the students were to select a well-known or respected architect or architectural firm and research their individual design approach/philosophy/form language.

What does he/she/they stand for and what characterizes the architecture?

Furthermore, an analysis should be made of the preferred building materials/materials used and the "attitude" towards materials and the handling of building materials should be shown.

How does he/she/it use building materials?

Finally, these findings should be used to design an individualized construction helmet. The essential characteristics of the architect or the office should serve as the basis for the motif.

What does the construction helmet of ... look like?

The designed helmet should be individually modified/processed in shape, color, structure, etc., but the helmet must still be "wearable". The assignment to the selected architect or architectural office was elementary.

The result was over 40 individual works of self-designed helmets and the associated documentation, which were presented to the public at an exhibition in the foyer of the Faculty of Architecture in Dortmund.
