Employees of Fachhochschule Dortmund have created a small green oasis in the Kreuzviertel district: A previously unused area on Sonnenstrasse has been transformed into an attractive "landing strip" with insect-friendly plants. Native songbirds also enjoy the nesting aids on campus.

The "social and ecological sustainability" (söN) working group has been set up within the corresponding focus group, which is committed, among other things, to working in the region and the conscious use of resources.
Some members from various UAS departments have now demonstrated the practical benefits of this: Equipped with spades, rakes and other gardening tools, they have upgraded an approximately 18 square meter bed with insect-friendly plants on the corner of Sonnenstraße and Weisbachstraße next to the entrance to the Rectorate corridor, with expert advice from the Dortmund Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU).
