Age(ing) meets migration

Threads of life: about arriving, staying and passing on

Published

The start of the talk series "Threads of life: Arriving, staying and passing on - age(ing) meets migration" impressively showed how complex life paths are. The guests' stories made it clear how closely pain, loss, strength, belonging, new beginnings and joy can be interwoven in the course of a life. This was the particular strength of the evening: the openness to ruptures and burdens as well as successful relationships, beautiful memories and what sustains people over many years.

At the same time, it became clear that these experiences are not just individual. Much of what was discussed that evening is also well documented by research: Experiences of migration, questions of participation, belonging, age(ing), loss and resources are always biographically unique and at the same time shaped by society. Personal stories and academic perspectives complemented each other in a special way on this evening.

Guests and hosts

Special thanks go to the guests Mahbube Peukert and Gazi Mansuroğlu, who engaged in the discussion with great openness and shared their experiences with the hosts and the audience.
