About the teachingarea
Learning to design is a comprehensive process based on a holistic approach. It begins with the first semester but must never be completed ... Designing means tracking down possibilities, solutions and making them visible depending on:
Place, space, time, function, construction, shape, material, expression ...
The above-mentioned factors that fundamentally and generally determine architecture are numerous and diverse, therefore it is necessary to combine these influencing factors thematically into a strong architectural concept that makes the realization of "an idea" in this complexity possible at all. When teaching design and construction, it is therefore important to convey a feeling for these dependencies, to exercise creative influence in the design process and to point out the design consequences.
At the beginning of every task, the place | context to which a design respectfully refers is the first consideration. Obstacles are welcome and are seen as a challenge and are incorporated into the design. Unique solutions often emerge from the particularity of a location or the special nature of the program.
Design projects are designed in such a way that students learn to design on the basis of concepts | ideas and to continue these logically from the construction to the shell to the detail and to allow the design to emerge not only from the synthesis of technical, scientific, functional and formal decisions, but also based on the local conditions, the beauty, conciseness and expression of the design means. The aim is also the search for a spatial, sensual experience that touches us just as much when we enter a room as when we listen to a piece of music. The quality of the space consists of a fine sense of light, scale and proportion as well as the beauty and expression of the material.
