Manufacturing Technology Laboratory (FTL)

Fast facts

Profile

The Manufacturing Technology Laboratory analyzes, tests and develops high-performance manufacturing technology processes. The modern machinery is used for the production of complex prototypes as well as for teaching purposes and the implementation of research and industrial projects. The machinery includes modern CNC machining centers (3- and 5-axis), a CNC lathe and other equipment for master forming technology.

High-performance in- and post-process measurement technology is available for process evaluation. This includes systems for measuring cutting force components, a high-speed camera, surface measurement technology and tool presetting and coordinate measuring machines. Internal collaborations also enable scanning electron microscopy and metallographic examinations.

As part of general technical counseling, the production engineering laboratory provides support with production-oriented design, manufacturability analyses and product costing. A large network of project and cooperation partners also enables complex manufacturing tasks to be implemented at short notice in close cooperation with the mechanical workshop at Fachhochschule Dortmund.
