Foundation, purpose and objectives
The Fördergesellschaft was founded in 1989 and emerged from the predecessor organizations Gesellschaft zur Förderung der technischen Ausbildung (GTA) an der Fachhochschule Dortmund e. V. and Förderkreis Praxisnahe Ausbildung (FPA) an der Fachhochschule Dortmund e. V.
The purpose of the association is to promote Fachhochschule Dortmund with the following objectives
- to promote the application-oriented research and development of teaching and in particular to deepen its practical relevance
- to participate in the maintenance of the education and training system in the area of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Dortmund
- to present the achievements of Fachhochschule Dortmund to the public

Prices
Prize for the best graduate in each faculty
Upon submission of the respective thesis, the faculties nominate one graduate for the prize by the middle of each year. The prize money amounts to 500 euros per faculty.
Promotion prize
Since 2022, Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts has awarded the annual doctoral prize, endowed with 1,000 euros by the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts Development Society, for an outstanding cooperative doctorate from one of the university's various faculties.
Research award for special achievements in research and development
The Senate Commission for Research selects several outstanding research projects for the award following proposals from the university.
The nominees present their work to a prize jury made up of members of the University's Sponsoring Society, including the Rector and the Chair of the Sponsoring Society.
The prizewinner is honored during the university's annual academic celebration . The prize money amounts to 2,500 euros.
Teaching award for special achievements in teaching
The student councils are entitled to nominate candidates. Individual lecturers at the university of applied sciences or teams, also across departments, can be nominated. In the middle of the year, the Commission for Teaching, Studies and Academic Reform, Evaluation and Continuing Education decides on the award. The winner of the award is honored at the university's annual academic celebration. The prize money amounts to 2,500 euros.
