All Bachelor's study programs in the faculty offer the opportunity to spend a semester abroad as part of the internship semester.

Master's students can complete their Master's thesis abroad.

The faculty maintains close contacts with universities worldwide. Joint projects in research and teaching strengthen international cohesion and enable our students to gain valuable experience abroad.

In addition, the University of Applied Sciences has other international university partners as part of the ERASMUS+ program(Opens in a new tab) , through which a semester abroad can be funded.

Study abroad?

A semester abroad often gives you a new perspective: on the foreign country, foreign cultures and also on your own subject. You can also improve your language skills and demonstrate your flexibility, independence and autonomy.

The International Office and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering are therefore happy to support you in organizing your stay abroad.

In principle, you have the opportunity to study abroad via an ERASMUS cooperation(Opens in a new tab) at the partner universities of the UAS or as a "free mover" at a university of your choice with which there is no contractual cooperation.

Please start planning early (we recommend about a year in advance) and follow the procedure below:

Find out in detail on the website of the International Office (Opens in a new tab) and plan and research for yourself where you want to go and which university suits your interests.
Seek personal counseling(Opens in a new tab) from the International Office.
Contact the faculty's international coordinator(Opens in a new tab) and announce your plans. In the case of an ERASMUS stay, you must ask whether a place is still available for the planned semester (this is usually the case).
You start your application yourself via the online portal "Mobility Online(Opens in a new tab) " (you will be informed about this during your counseling at the International Office). If you have any difficulties with the portal, you can contact Julia Klein(Opens in a new tab) .
During the application process, you must complete a so-called "Learning Agreement". This means that you must specify the modules that you would like to take at the foreign university and the respective module in your study program at Fachhochschule Dortmund for which you would like the course to be credited after your return.
You must coordinate this "Learning Agreement" with the international representative of your faculty(Opens in a new tab) . Make an appointment for this and bring your proposal with you. If the content of the modules abroad and in Germany are largely the same, credit can be granted on your return.
