Application as an exchange student
Studying at the Faculty of Design
Language of instruction
Unless otherwise stated, the language of instruction is German. However, most teachers and students are fluent in English and are prepared to give additional explanations and instructions in English and to switch to English in some cases. However, we would like to point out that German language skills of at least level A2 (CEFR) are generally required in order to actively participate in the faculty's courses. We therefore strongly recommend that exchange students attend preparatory German courses.
The Master's study program Scenographic Design and Communication is taught bilingually in German and English.
Course offer / Registration for courses
The degree program at the Faculty of Design is strongly project-based and geared towards teamwork.
Special module types: EEG modules are interdisciplinary in nature; in IDP modules, students work on design projects in interdisciplinary working groups; SK modules teach transferable skills.
The curricula (module overviews) for the individual study programs can be downloaded from the website of the respective study program in the right-hand column. The courses and seminars currently offered each semester can be accessed via this directory: fb.design.fh-dortmund.de.
To register for the courses, please use the ODS system (login with your FH ID; you will receive this after enrolment).
Facilities / Equipment
The faculty has a well-equipped library, computer rooms, printers and scanners as well as workstations for students. There are also various workshops, studios and laboratories for different projects and materials. Details can be found here:
Buddy Program
In cooperation with the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Dortmund, we offer a buddy program for exchange students. We will find a suitable local student for you as a "buddy" who will support you with your first steps in Dortmund and orientation at the faculty. In addition, the ESN organizes a programme of events for the "buddies" during the semester. Please contact the International Office at the Faculty of Design if you are interested.
