Suitability assessment 2025

Admission to the Bachelor's degree course in Architecture at Fachhochschule Dortmund is based on a course-related aptitude assessment. Therefore, in addition to a general university entrance qualification, you must also provide proof of a specific aptitude.

The dates for the aptitude test for enrolment for the next winter semester will be announced at the beginning of 2025.

If you have any questions about the aptitude test, please send an email to: support.fb1fh-dortmundde

Procedure and content of the aptitude test

The aptitude assessment takes place on site at the Fachhochschule Dortmund (Faculty of Architecture, Emil-Figge-Str. 40, 44227 Dortmund). Please bring a portfolio with 10 work samples to the aptitude test. In our rooms at the faculty you will work on a small task and briefly present your portfolio to us.

Portfolio with 10 work samples: The portfolio should be prepared in advance of the aptitude assessment day if possible. The portfolio can contain work samples from the areas of drawings, paintings, collages, photographs or technical drawings. A mixture of the individual areas is desirable (see "Portfolio" below). The portfolio may only contain originals created by you. The portfolio must include a table of contents and an author's declaration. Please use this template PDF-File 85,21 kB  for this purpose.

Portfolio discussion on site: At the university, you will present excerpts from your portfolio to a lecturer in a 10-minute interview.

Small task on site: You will work on a small task, which usually consists of several parts (e.g. develop an idea, sketch and build it, calculate and describe it).

You will be informed of the result of the aptitude test in writing the following week.

You will receive an invitation by e-mail 2-3 days before the respective aptitude test. This will include your personal appointment for the portfolio interview.
