kiU-Talk: AI-Future of the theater

Information

Guest at the Dortmunder U: Michael Rau

What potentials and challenges does artificial intelligence bring in connection with staging and space? Theater director Michael Rau will talk about this in his lecture "Mastering the AI future of theater" on Thursday, 17 April 2025, from 7 p.m. under the Fulldome in the foyer of the "Dortmunder U".

The Stanford University professor will be a guest in the "kiU-Talk" series at Fachhochschule Dortmund to talk about his experiences in dealing with AI in the theater. He will explain what he believes is necessary to actually create intelligent art from AI. Michael Rau will build a bridge between theater traditions and technologies from Silicon Valley - from an AI performance system that generates secondary visual stories alongside the actors to a computer vision system that recognizes the movements of the performers for new analytical approaches. He will also demonstrate ways to integrate technology into storytelling without losing the human heart of performance.

Tobias Bieseke, research associate at Fachhochschule Dortmund's "storyLab kiU", will moderate a discussion with the audience after the lecture.

Admission is free.
