What makes us special
Scientific foundation and strategic orientation
The Faculty of Business Studies is application-, practice- and future-oriented. Accordingly, the curriculum is internationally oriented and scientifically sound. In order to optimally prepare students for the professional world, we impart the necessary knowledge, even beyond pure specialist knowledge.
The focus areas are strategically chosen so that at the end of your studies you will have qualifications that you can use in many different positions in Business Studies and that will enable you to successfully face changing challenges. Highly qualified lecturers and lecturers with practical experience guarantee a challenging course with good career prospects.
The annual Business Event of the Faculty of Business Studies brings together speakers from academia and practice and offers you the opportunity to get in touch with companies.
City and region
Personal initiative opens doors
The Faculty of Business Studies works with companies from Dortmund and the region in many areas. Internships in companies often pave the way for practically relevant theses. The more initiative you show, the easier it is to make contact with companies that may be of interest to you when you start your career.
Internationality
High level of study through international exchange
Many foreign guest students and the international experience of the lecturers set appropriate standards for the level of study.
English-language courses, English literature and case studies in conjunction with your own initiative can help to improve your language skills so that you can actively and passively master the international academic language during your studies.
The four-semester Master's degree courses include a semester abroad or an internship semester, for which we cooperate with many partner universities in Europe and overseas. A study or internship semester in another country allows you to further develop your intercultural skills and foreign language skills. This can make it easier to start your career and form the basis for a career in research.
Research
Part of teaching in many respects
The Faculty of Business Studies offers above-average students the opportunity to get involved in innovative projects with local research partners such as the Fraunhofer IML or the IDIAL research institute at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts at an early stage of their studies. As far as possible, students are integrated into the development of product and process innovations. Project and seminar work as well as the Master's thesis can be developed in research projects and the corresponding results may be included in the course. In the past, some students have been able to present their research results at conferences and publish them in specialist journals.
International contacts are a further foundation for many research activities.
Career Service
Deepening skills and knowledge
The Career Service at Fachhochschule Dortmund supports you in expanding your skills and knowledge in a wide range of areas. For example, you can take advanced foreign language courses in English or Spanish. There are opportunities to learn project management or expand your communication skills with courses in open-ended communication, conversation skills or conflict management.
Technical specializations are also possible. You can obtain a European Computer Driving License (ECDL course) or improve your academic writing skills with Citavi and LaTeX courses, for example.
