What makes us special
Model project with modern concepts
The Faculty of Information Technology ideally combines a demanding, professionally focused education with current issues from research and development. Close practical relevance and high-quality student support are important to us. Open laboratories and the strengthening of computer science in engineering education serve as a model for education at Fachhochschule Dortmund.
The course is application and project-oriented. You often learn in small groups and on the basis of case studies. The course content is geared towards the future and the labor market, and the laboratories and practical rooms are equipped to the highest technical standards.
City and region
Advancing digitization
The City of Dortmund has launched a Digital Dortmund master plan to develop modern solutions at the interface between the city administration and urban society. The Faculty of Information Technology supports the implementation of this
of this strategy and sets corresponding priorities. The aim is to provide the city and the region with qualified graduates who can actively shape this development. As part of one of the largest universities of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia, we are aware of our social responsibility.
The faculty is closely integrated into the city and its surroundings. The good reputation of Fachhochschule Dortmund and the participation of the Faculty of Information Technology in company and industry networks offer attractive opportunities for cooperation in the region. As part of a large urban conurbation, Dortmund is also culturally very diverse and multifaceted. It is a good place to live, especially as rents and the cost of living are comparatively low compared to other university cities.
Internationality
International and intercultural networking
The Faculty of Information Technology is internationally oriented. We support the mobility of our students across national borders as well as international cooperation and projects.
In both study programs, Biomedical Engineering and Digital Technologies, you can opt for an additional internship semester. This extends the study period from six to seven semesters. The seven-semester study option gives you the opportunity to establish contact with companies during the practical phase, expand your practical knowledge and, for example, enhance your intercultural skills through a stay abroad.
Counseling and support
E-Learning and Career Service
We want you to do well in critical subjects such as mathematics. An extensive advisory network, e-learning offers and the Maths HelpDesk will support you in this.
The Career Service at Fachhochschule Dortmund also offers you numerous opportunities to further develop your skills and sharpen your personal profile. For example, you can develop your key social or methodological skills and expand your foreign language and IT knowledge in interdisciplinary events
Studying as a phase of life
Family, health and culture
Fachhochschule Dortmund supports students who have responsibility for children or care for relatives. We offer childcare and advise you on financial and organizational issues.
The health of our students is important to us, so they can take advantage of the university sports program, among other things. Our water dispensers are also available free of charge after sport.
We want students to look beyond the confines of the university. For example, you can attend performances at Theater Dortmund free of charge with your student ID.
