What makes us special
Focus on energy systems
Energy is an important topic for the future, which we are consciously addressing by focusing on the comprehensive Energy Systems Master's study program. Project work is integrated at an early stage of the course. This prepares you at all levels for the demands of a career that requires more and more social skills in addition to specialist knowledge.
The faculty's equipment is state of the art. We offer workrooms for all subject areas. For example, there is a laboratory for high-voltage technology and electromagnetic compatibility/insulation technology, laboratories for power electronics and drive technology, electronics and automation as well as laboratories for renewable energies and the energy industry, energy automation and control technology.
City and region
Well networked and varied
The part-time study program makes it possible to closely combine work and study. This is a unique selling point that is attractive beyond the region.
The region is located in an environment characterized by electrical engineering and the energy industry. In addition, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering offers the advantages of a manageable section with modern laboratories at one of the largest universities of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The faculty is closely integrated into the city and its surroundings. We benefit from the good reputation of Fachhochschule Dortmund. This offers attractive opportunities for cooperation with companies in the region. Furthermore, as part of a large urban conurbation, Dortmund is culturally very diverse and multifaceted. It is a good place to live, especially as rents and the cost of living are comparatively low.
Internationality
Project orientation facilitates practice abroad
The Energy Systems study program is strongly project-oriented. This makes it easy to integrate domestic and international practical experience into the course. These can be recognized without extending the study period. You can also plan project phases without parallel attendance courses.
Research
Future-oriented topics and projects
You will accompany the teaching staff of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in small groups as they work in their respective specialist areas. In this way, you will be part of future-oriented topics and projects.
Career Service
Deepening skills and knowledge
The Career Service at Fachhochschule Dortmund supports you in expanding your skills and knowledge in a wide range of areas. For example, you can take advanced foreign language courses in English or Spanish. There are opportunities to learn project management or to expand your communication skills with courses in open-ended communication, conversation skills or conflict management.
Technical specializations are also possible. You can obtain a European Computer Driving License (ECDL course) or improve your academic writing skills with Citavi and LaTeX courses, for example.
