The librarians Georg Leyh (1877-1968), director of Tübingen University Library 1921-1947, and Karl Preisendanz (1883-1968), director of Heidelberg University Library 1935-1945, were in close correspondence during the National Socialist era. The correspondence preserved in the estates of Leyh (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz) and Preisendanz (Heidelberg University Library) represents an important source for the modern history of libraries. A total of 165 letters were analyzed for this study, covering both professional and private topics. The study sheds light on biographical aspects, the relationship between the two correspondents and provides insights into the state of academic librarianship during dictatorship and war.
