The following dates will take place this year:

- October 31, 2024: Copyright law
- End of November 2024: Literature management
To participate, you only need to register using the link below and you will then receive Webex access before the lecture. Here you will also find further information on the individual topics.
Network colloquium "Bring your mentors"
It is not uncommon for the two supervisors to work alongside the doctoral candidates in a cooperative doctorate and often meet only rarely or not at all during the course of the doctorate. As a result, they miss valuable opportunities to complement each other and provide all the more comprehensive supervision. In order to provide an opportunity to get to know each other, we offer a colloquium where doctoral candidates present their projects and supervisors give feedback on all presentations afterwards.
Interested doctoral candidates can register informally by 31.10.2024 by e-mail to promotionskollegfh-dortmundde together with both supervisors. Please put your supervisor in the CC.
Promotion prize
The jury meeting for this year's doctoral prize was held recently and a winner was chosen: Dr. Sven Becker. He was awarded the prize for his dissertation on "Fully automated bone age determination on pediatric X-ray images based on the radiological approach". We congratulate him warmly!
We would also like to thank the other applicants for their submissions.
We would like to take this opportunity to inform you about the upcoming call for entries for the Doctoral Award 2025. This relates to doctorates that were successfully defended in 2024.
Furthermore, we have a new jury member this year, Prof. Dr. Gudrun Stockmanns, who is now part of the jury instead of Prof. Dr. Maritta Heisel.
You can find more information about the doctoral prize and the previous winners in the link below.
Deadline for promotion funding
It is also possible to apply for doctoral funding. The application period runs until 1.10.2024.

You can find more information on the funding, the new features of the 2024 call for applications and the application process in the linked call for applications.

Review of the DART Symposium 2024
On 25 April, the DART Symposium, which is organized every two years by doctoral students for doctoral students, took place in the impressive steel hall of the Dortmunder Arbeitsschutzausstellung (DASA). Under the title "extending theory: impact of applied research", doctoral students and researchers from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts and other universities from North Rhine-Westphalia and across Germany were able to exchange ideas, listen to various specialist presentations and take part in a panel discussion. The focus was on the importance of applied research and how it improves people's lives.
Furthermore, five doctoral students from Fachhochschule Dortmund and other universities from NRW had the opportunity to present their research in talks on stage. Further research projects were then presented at a large poster exhibition, where the doctoral students were available for questions and discussions.
The grand finale of the DART Symposium was the presentation of the DART Award "Applied Research Award for Young Researcher 2024". Stefan Patzke, who is doing his doctorate at the Faculty of Information Technology at Fachhochschule Dortmund, impressed the jury with his research into the detection of endometriosis and received the coveted prize, for which a total of 18 doctoral students had applied.
Summer party 2024
In bright sunshine and warm temperatures, the Graduate Center's third summer party took place for the first time at its new location at Joseph-von-Fraunhofer-Str. 23 on June 27. Although many things were new and different, we spent a wonderful afternoon together at our new location.
We rolled out the orange carpet for our doctoral students and all other guests, creating a stage for the annual review and honoring special achievements. The stage program was enriched by the musical accompaniment of violinist Anna Pomerantseva. There was also a small reading corner with dissertations by former doctoral students, which we were able to present on the university's famous orange Citroën van of the legendary HY model.
An ice cream bike from Hitzefrei and a small cocktail bar provided the necessary refreshment in the hot temperatures.
We would like to thank all our guests for coming and for the good mood they brought with them. See you next time!
General assembly and doctoral student get-together
On August 15, all doctoral students were invited to another plenary meeting organized by the doctoral student representatives. In order to loosen up the format a little, the idea of a regulars' table was added, where topics of everyday life for doctoral candidates can be discussed in a relaxed atmosphere. This should take place quarterly if possible. The next date will be announced by the doctoral student representatives.
Annual report 2023
Our new annual report is now complete and released. In the 2023 Annual Report, we have summarized current developments, major changes and new achievements at the Graduate Center. We have taken a look at what has been done, what has been used, what has happened and what has been achieved. So take a look and see for yourself.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all doctoral candidates for their work, participation and motivation during their doctorate, as they make a significant contribution to how things develop here.
