"Sustainability at universities" pilot audit successfully completed at Fachhochschule Dortmund
We have successfully completed the "Sustainability at universities" pilot audit by the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) - making us one of the first universities in Germany to go through this process. Our participation clearly shows that the sustainable further development of Fachhochschule Dortmund is a central concern for us.
As part of the audit, we worked intensively with HRK experts to reflect on key areas of action - from governance and strategy to teaching, research, operations and transfer. The feedback confirmed that we have already established many committed activities that we can network even more closely and develop strategically in the future.
By completing the pilot audit, we have taken an important step towards anchoring sustainability at Fachhochschule Dortmund in the long term and consistently advancing our transformative development.
Energy saving campaign "Together less ..."
The cold season is upon us - and with it comes the start of our energy-saving campaign "Together less ...", which is taking place for the fourth time from November to February. The aim of the campaign is to use energy even more consciously in everyday study and work life and to make a joint contribution to climate protection.
We are particularly pleased that our energy consumption has fallen significantly in recent years. A look at the main sites EFS, SON and MOP shows that electricity consumption in 2024 was 24% lower than in 2019 and heat consumption was 19% lower. A positive trend can also be seen since the start of the energy-saving campaign: Between 2022 and 2024, electricity consumption was reduced by 12% and heat consumption by 7%. Although these developments cannot be clearly attributed to individual measures, they clearly show that we are on the right track and that there is further potential.
As in previous years, we would like to raise awareness of simple but effective energy-saving tips - from correct heating and conscious ventilation to consistently switching off unnecessary appliances. We will be on site with service stands until the end of February and look forward to exchanging ideas with you.
Energy management
Another important step: from next year, the Location Development and Climate Protection department in Facility Management will be expanded to include energy management. Energy management will be funded for three years by the Federal Ministry for Business Studies and Energy as part of the NKI municipal guidelines.
