Fachhochschule Dortmund in easy language

We are the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

Welcome to our website.

Here you will find information about us.

After school, many people do an apprenticeship.

But many people also go to university.

Here they continue their studies.

Just like at school.

But only in one school subject.

We offer 80 school subjects. These school subjects are called study courses.

Over 15 thousand people study with us.

They are called students.

Learning in a high school.

The time at university is called studying.

A degree course lasts a few years.

The students have teachers.

They also get grades.

And a certificate at the end.

The certificate is a university degree.

There are 2 difficult words for it.

They are English words:

Bachelor and Master.

First you do the Bachelor.

Then the Master's degree. But only those who want to.

You need a degree for many professions.

With us, students learn what they need for their profession.

Some students want to become researchers.

We help them find a career.

Studying costs money.

Over 300 euros every six months.

That's the semester contribution.

The money is for a lot of things.

For example, for cheap meals at the university.

Students can also travel by bus and train for free.

Other things also have to be paid for.

For example, books or a computer.

That's a lot of money for many people.

But there is a law in Germany.

It's a very difficult word:

Bundes-Ausbildungs-Förderungs-Gesetz.

The short form is usually used:

BAföG.

The law reads:

Everyone has a right to learn.

So you can ask for help.

With this help, studying costs less.

But you have to pay part of it back.

We can help with any questions.

There is a telephone number.

It's for people who want to study with us.

0231 9112-8965

We help on the phone on 3 days.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

From 9:30 to 12:30.
