Information
This year's "World Usability Day Metropole Ruhr" (aka ruhrWUD(Opens in a new tab) ) at the Dortmund IT service provider adesso has the overarching theme of "Designing for a Better World". Fachhochschule Dortmund is part of the event's organizing team - and Prof. Dr. Gabriele Kunau from the Faculty of Computer Science is contributing a presentation.
The day is aimed at anyone interested in shaping digital change and good user experience, especially representatives from the digital and software industry. Participation is free of charge, but registration via Eventbrite(Opens in a new tab) is required.
Gabriele Kunau is Professor of Business Informatics at Fachhochschule Dortmund. Her minor in sociology during her studies, her doctorate in Computer Science & Society, her many years of teaching in this field and the development of the Master's program in Digital Design(Opens in a new tab) form the basis for the technical-sociological questions in her lecture.
Gabriele Kunau announces her event contribution entitled "From Maslow's Hammer to the Technological Fix and Back Again" as follows: "The psychologist Abraham Maslow is credited with the observation that for those who have a hammer, the whole world is made of nails. The use of familiar methods is always obvious and is often discussed as a bias in UX design. My presentation goes one step further here: is a digital solution, no matter how good the user experience, fundamentally the right solution? This quickly leads to the idea of the 'technological fix'. We will look at examples of digital technological fixes and ask ourselves what advantages and disadvantages arise with regard to the problem to be solved. Finally, we will look at the skills required to identify and name the limits of our hammers."
