Sustainability Week 2025

Prof. Dr. Sabrina Scheidler(Opens in a new tab) , Faculty of Business Studies, investigates topics such as corporate sustainability commitment in her research and has worked to establish the CSR Office at Fachhochschule Dortmund. In her teaching, she shows students how they can shape sustainable Business Studies as the professionals of tomorrow

Prof. Dr. Claudia Gärtner(Opens in a new tab) , Professor of Practical Theology with a focus on religious education (Institute of Catholic Theology), researches how religious education affects environmental awareness. Together with colleagues and the Sustainability Office at TU Dortmund University, Prof. Gärtner has developed the studium oecologicum certificate. Since 2021, students have been able to acquire skills on the topic of sustainability, which they can prove with the certificate. As an advisory board member for the certificate, the award winner is responsible for the content of the certificate area of education and organizes an interdisciplinary lecture series

The Purchasing team(Opens in a new tab)  at Fachhochschule Dortmund is actively involved in the development of sustainable procurement guidelines, counseling university employees on sustainable procurement and actively participating in the participatory processes for sustainable development at Fachhochschule Dortmund. By openly communicating their efforts and measures, the team members create opportunities for participation. By taking a critical look at the procurement of goods and services and engaging directly with procurers on possible alternatives, they perform valuable awareness-raising work. The Procurement team is active in networks at both state and national level in order to help shape sustainable procurement in the public sector. In this way, they develop innovative strength and pass this on beyond the university boundaries.

Since July 2022, the Sustainability Commission of the Faculty of Computer Science(Opens in a new tab)  has been committed to the topic of sustainability with continuity and above and beyond what is expected. Professors, academic and non-academic staff and students work together and coordinate projects that promote sustainable action in research and teaching. With the introduction of the Sustainability Award of the Faculty of Computer Science and the lecture series "Computer Science and Sustainability", the commission is acting as a role model. With their personal commitment, the representatives of the commission have firmly anchored the topic of sustainability in the Faculty of Computer Science and created a competent and binding contact point for faculty members, from which sustainability officers from other faculties and, last but not least, the Sustainability Office also benefit immensely.
