With its three research profiles "Intelligent Information and Communication Systems", "Efficiency Technologies" and "Societal Change: Social and Economic Innovations", Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts has made an initial push in the direction of sustainability-oriented research. Integrative sustainability concept for garden shows, using the example of the IGA2027 Ruhr region

Researchers from Bochum University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences and Arts and Dortmund University of Applied Sciences have jointly developed a comprehensive, integrative sustainability concept for the International Garden Exhibition (IGA) 2027 in the Ruhr region. The research and transfer project, funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU), was presented to the public for the first time on 27 June 2025 at the annual conference of the Fair Metropole Ruhr and is intended to serve as a source of inspiration and a model for sustainable action in the context of garden shows and other major events. GROUND:CLIMATE
The GRUND:KLIMA project has the task of analyzing the data and findings of the "INCLU:DE - Socially just climate protection on site" project and, with the help of the context data for Dortmund, to prepare concrete recommendations for action for Dortmund's politicians and administration. The client is the Environmental Agency of the City of Dortmund. GRUND:KLIMA is a project of the URLab - Urban Resilience Laboratory, which is part of the Environmental Psychology Working Group for Transdisciplinary Sustainability Research.
